Australian casino operator, SkyCity Entertainment Group, announced last year that they had partnered with the South Australian government to expand the Adelaide Casino.

The expansion is set to take place in July and is valued at AU$330 million. According to SkyCity, the new casino resort will be “the most luxurious hotel” in Adelaide. In addition, it will increase gambling activity down under. Adelaide Casino’s General Manager, Luke Walker, said: “it is a monumental occasion for Adelaide Casino and indeed the city that we are going ahead with this expansion.”

According to Skycity, the expansion will include rejuvenation of its existing gambling space that will attract local gamblers. In fact, the new development will feature 140 tables for classic casino games and a whopping 1100 electronic gambling machines aka pokies.

Adelaide Casino to Boost the Economy

Excitement levels are at an all-time high despite several delays and that the expansion was approved almost a year ago.

Premier Steven Marshall said the expansion is “going to create jobs, it’s going to grow our economy and, most importantly, it’s going to give us better infrastructure and better facilities to attract interstate and overseas visitors to South Australia.”

Hansen Yuncken beat out competitors to win the tender on this expansion. In fact, this is their second time working on the Adelaide Casino. They worked on the first development back in 1985. In addition, Hansen Yuncken has worked on the Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Echoing Premier Marshall’s sentiments, Hansen Yuncken confirmed that they would “work predominately with local contractors and suppliers to construct and fit out the 12-level development.”

When it is complete, the new building will feature 123 hotel rooms. Plus, a day spa, multiple cafes and a 30% increase in gambling products including four new VIP gambling rooms. The projected completion is the third quarter of 2020.
