Playing Rules of Roulette

On a European Roulette table, you can expect to see a layout of numbers 1 to 36 and an additional 0 pocket. However, should you decide to play on an American Roulette table, the layout will be exactly the same, except, this table features to green zero slots. One with a single zero and one featuring a double zero.

French Roulette is another option, possibly the best option as it has specific rules associated with it which assist in lowering the house edge to less than that of its counterparts.

The main objective of this game is to try and predict where the ball will land on the next spin of the wheel. Players are able to bet on odds or evens, a group of numbers, a single number or on a colour; red or black. The larger the group that you place your bet on, the better your chances are of winning. However, the greater your chances are of you winning, the lower your payout will be.

Roulette Bets and Odds

Depending on the bets that you place when playing this casino game, the house edge will change.  Below is a table depicting what you can expect when placing certain bets in Roulette, and what your odds on the Roulette variants are.

French Roulette Playing Rules

Always remember, that where possible, select the European Roulette or French option over American Roulette. Due to the extra zero slot provided on the American Roulette wheel, the house has a greater advantage.  Some of the best playing rules to apply to the French version of this popular table game is, “En Prison” and “La Partage”.

En Prison

This playing rule can only be applied to even-money bets. However, should a player land on the green zero slot, they have two options to choose from:

  1. Lose half of their bet and reclaim the other half, or
  2. Let the bet stay “en prison” (in prison).

If the player chooses to leave the bet “en prison” this means that for the following spin, you gamble for all or nothing. If the bet is lost, or lands on the zero slot again, then the full bet is lost. If the player manages to land on their bet, then they will be able to win all of their money back.

La Partage

The La Partage means sharing or dividing. The playing rules for La Partage are very much like the “en prison” bet. However, it does not enjoy the benefits of leaving the bet in prison for the following spin. This betting rule can be applied to ‘outside’ even real money wagers with two possible outcomes: for instance; red or black, high or low, odds or even.
